Grading Policy
Below you will see the Grading Policy of P.S. 119 and
District 22.

Be informed of the Elementary Academic Policy Guidance:

Be consistent in your grading:
4- Exceeds grade-level standards (92%-100%)
3- Meets grade-level standards (80%-91%)
2- Approaches grade-level standards (65%-79%)
1- Far below grade-level standards (64% or below)

- Any child functioning below grade level in any subject area cannot receive a grade higher than level 2.

- Be sure to refer to the HMH & IReady assessments when determining reading levels. This will determine the level (1, 2, 3, or 4) that a student is reading on for the report card.
- Do not penalize a child in an academic area for their behavior unless the behavior directly interferes with their academic work. There are appropriate “social/emotional” grades that are indicated on a report card.
- Report card grades must be based using a variety of assessments: teacher made tests, Unit Math assessments, classwork, participation, writing assignments, observation/ conference notes.

- Comments are to be informative and factual. You must begin with a positive comment. Be sure to indicate recommendations to the parent on the report card on how they can assist the child’s academic progress. Comments like Jane Doe is a very nice girl are not acceptable. Be thoughtful and insightful when writing comments. Parents appreciate your comments.

- Early parental involvement is key to early intervention
